So 2020 is over. While I would like to say “finally” I’m not going to, because so far 2021 doesn’t seem to be that different. With the virus situation being what it is across the world right now, January feels more like an extension of December than a brand new month in a brand new year. It’s not all doom, gloom and despair though. I am carefully optimistic about what this upcoming year will hold. Even though I don’t expect to be able to travel much I do hope that vaccines will help the situation enough for people to start living a little more normal life.
But I was supposed to do a recap of 2020. How does one even do that when most of the year has felt like limbo, with no changes from day to day (or even month to month at some points)? Well, for me, I have to focus on the fun things that actually did happen, the bright points.
- I have been lucky to be able to celebrate family members’ birthdays as well as my own.
- I’ve had a couple of cocktails out with my bf and my friends in early/mid fall (before the cases went through the roof again).
- My bf and I have had three very nice dinners out between June and early October: Ekstedt, Semestersvinet and Svartengrens.
- I have been able to meet a few friends outside for picnics.
- We are lucky enough to live right next to a couple of really good restaurants that we have been able to support by ordering take away. Supporting local businesses is always important but especially this year.
- My family and I are still healthy. None of us has caught covid, and considering the fact that I’m the one in our family who has to move about on public transport to go to and from work I consider that a huge stroke of luck.
- I have taken up tabletop RPG again! I used to play quite a lot many years ago and now a bunch of us got together and started playing Call of Cthulhu. It’s a lot of fun and thanks to technology we’ll be able to keep on playing while social distancing 🙂
- I have been to see two fashion exhibitions. One about the Nobel dresses belonging to the former secretary of the Swedish Academy, Sara Danius, and one about Vivienne Westwood. Fashion and fashion history has always been a passion of mine and I try to indulge in as many exhibitions as I can.
I wish I could say that I have baked banana bread or learned new complicated techniques, but no. I have been way too tired and stressed out for that.
I did make my own lingonberry jam and pickled mushrooms though and that’s quite good enough.
So, while 2020 sucked pretty bad I really hope there will be a light in the tunnel of 2021. I’m not asking for much at this point. I would just like to be able to see my friends again without having to worry about if we’re sitting too close to each other.
